Hi! I'm Nicole Cheah. I enjoy reporting and creating graphics -- political or social stories especially.
I'm a junior at Northwestern majoring in journalism and international studies. I'm the illustrations editor at our student paper and in the spring of 2026, I'll be based in D.C. reporting with the Medill investigative lab.
Last summer I wrote for the South China Morning Post's Asia desk as part of small team in Singapore, and before that I was based in Strasbourg (FR) where I interned at the Council of Europe's communications directorate.
I've contributed to five desks at The Straits Times, Singapore's newspaper of record -- including Foreign, Video, and Art. Before college, I was part of The New York Times' Gap Year program, and received the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) Overseas Journalism Scholarship.
Outside of journalism I do research and costume design.
